The study program on status of primate species in Pumat National Park was carried out in 2020. In the study, the data was collected using transect survey method and interviews with local people. According to the results of field surveys, six primate species of the family Cercopithecidae living in Pu Mat National Park have been recorded, including: Stump-tailed macaque (Macaca arctoides), Assamese macaque (Macaca assamensis), Pig-tailed macaque (Macaca leonina), Rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta), Phayre’s leaf monkey (Trachypithecus phayrei) and Red-shanked douc (Pygathrix nemaeus). The total number of kilometres walked is 524.7 km. Stump-tailed macaque is the most commonly encountered species with an average of 0.04 groups/km (0.179 individuals/km), Rhesus macaque are 0.013 groups/km (0.112 individuals/km) and Pig-tailed macaque are 0.015 groups/km (0.057 individuals/km). Phayre’s leaf monkey, Assamese macaque and Red-shanked langur have an average encounter rate of 0.006 groups/km (0.065 individuals/km), 0.008 groups/km (0.038 individuals/km), and 0.011 groups/km (0.044 individuals/km), respectively. The survey program was conducted in 11 areas in the core zone of Pu Mat National Park and the results showed that Khe Choang area had the highest number of species with 5 primate species recorded, while Khe Yen area did not record any species. 4 primate species were recorded in the areas of Khe Nghen, Pu Xam Liem, Tam Hop and 3 species were observed in the remaining areas, including Khe Bu, Khe Thoi, Khe Bung, Khe Chat - Khe Ngoa. No primate species recorded in khe Yen area. The primate species of family Cercopithecidae were observed in 5 different types of forest habitats in Pu Mat National Park. While at altitudes below 800 metres the highest number of primate species were recorded in low-impact primary forest habitats with 6 primate species recorded, at altitudes above 800 metres only 5 species were recorded. There are 3 primate species have been observed in mixed wood-bamboo forest habitats. The results have also shown that there are 5 threats that directly affect primate populations in Pu Mat National Park including: illegal hunting, illegal non-timber products collecting, cattle grazing, habitats loss caused by forest fires and road constructions.
