Abstract

Hau Giang province is located in the middle of the Mekong delta, where people's livelihoods are largely dependent on agricultural production and a few workers in industrial factories. This area has the disadvantages of low-lying terrain, many areas blocked water, difficult to drain water, plus irrigation works to prevent salinity and keep fresh for continuous agricultural cultivation in many seasons in the year in the form of intensive farming. It leads to the result that the water source accumulates too many nutrients in the form of nitrate (NO3) and phosphate (PO4) from agricultural wastes, overuse of fertilizers and untreated sewage combined domestic solid waste. Due to the reasons, the phenomenon of flow stagnation and eutrophication problems in many rivers and canals in Hau Giang province are common. The agricultural transformation policy and the planning of the Mekong delta region have oriented the strategy of reducing rice production to shifting to more favorable production forms, especially for Hau Giang province with a strategy of developing into a logistics hub for the delta region. Sustainable agricultural development and the solution of promoting logistics services are the topics discussed in this report.
