THE RESULTS OF REVIVAL SELECTION OF THE SPECIAL NEP HAT CAU RICE CULTIVAR IN THANH HOA PROVINCE

Abstract

The Hat Cau sticky rice variety is a traditional specialty of Thanh Hoa province, with a growing period of 150 - 158 days. The rice is opaque white, fragrant and popular with consumers. The average yield is 35 - 38 quintals/ha, high yield can reach 42 - 45 quintals/ha. The restoration process of the Hat Cau sticky rice variety was carried out in Thach Thanh district from the Summer 2020 to the Summer  2022 according to National Standard TCVN 12181:2018. The first restoration result (Summer 2020) selected 101 G0 lines; in the second crop (Summer 2021), 24 G1 lines were selected and in the third crop (Summer 2022), 11 G2 lines were selected with high uniformity, a growth period of 155 days, an average stem height of 128.5 centimeter, an average main flower axis length of 28.1 centimeter, an average number of flowers/clump of 5.5 flowers, an average total number of solid grains/flower of 129.6 grains, an average thousand-grain weight of 27.7 grams, an average grain yield of 0.42 kg/square meter, opaque white rice grain color and aromatic. These lines are completely consistent with the characteristics according to the description table and have been mixed to reach a weight of 2.500 kg and have been issued a test result certificate by the Thanh Hoa Center for Testing and Certification of Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery products quality on December 8, 2022, code number 38.SNC.M22.001, confirming that the seeds have reached the super-original level.
