Street trees are one of the factors that shape the appearance of the urban landscape. In addition to their environmental protection functions, the urban tree system also provides cultural and historical values, contributes to the creation of spaces for rest and relaxation. Da Nang is one of the cities considered to be at the forefront in planning green spaces in accordance with spatial zoning and characteristic urban regions. Within the administrative area of former Da Nang city, there are 132 species with 65,463 street trees planted along streets with roadway widths greater than 7.5 meters; of which the zone of Han river and eastern coastal account for 51,653 trees, belonging to 114 species. Based on the results of field surveys, this study proposes several main solutions to overcome limitations in the management, maintenance and development of the urban tree system. These solutions include developing a set of criteria for selecting tree species suitable for the characteristics of each zone, ensuring coordinated planning between infrastructure systems (electricity, water supply, telecommunications cables, etc.) and the street tree system, and raising awareness and encouraging the local community participation.
